Inside Giles & Brother

Whoa, first of all: time flies. The last few weeks have been a whirlwind. I thought once NYFW was over, I'd have a chance to "catch up," but things have actually been moving at a faster pace than ever before. Last week I appeared on The Today Show, and truthfully, everything before and after that is a bit of a blur. But more on that later!

I did get to sneak a visit to the Giles & Brother studio, last week. Being a former design student myself, I'm as enamored with the process of creating beautiful objects as I am with the finished product. I love to see the journey and lifecycle and evolution each thing that is created takes from ideation to physical article. I think, often, we take the evolution of objects for granted - not recognizing (or appreciating) the many transformations they, and their creator, endure throughout the production process. Having been a fan of Philip Crangi's for several years (my first introduction to him was a brief meeting at The Brooklyn Museum's annual art ball), I've long lusted after his incredible fine jewelry pieces. When Giles & Brother launched, in collaboration with Philip's sister, Courtney Crangi, it became exactly the thing I've been looking for. Just browse their collections and take a look for yourself... If you're anything like me, it's love at first sight.

One of my absolute favorite pieces in the fall collection. The fall collection was inspired by Circe and mermaids (I'm such a sucker for Greek mythological references). I love the mixed metal tones - with a rose gold and silver finish. I also loved hearing about the process of making the brushed enamel look by adapting a Japanese technique.

As a true magpie, this preview to the spring collection is hitting very close to my heart... I'm positive I'll be twiddling my thumbs waiting for the release of these rhinestoned chains.

The far end of the studio houses an archive of Philip Crangi and Giles & Brother, past and present. Anecdotes of dressing Miss Piggy (!!!!) in bespoke jewels were among my favorite.
