Midweek Inspiration: Alexandre Herchcovitch

My first introduction with physical Alexandre Herchcovitch pieces was at Opening Ceremony in LA several years ago, where I scoured through racks of sale merchandise that I coveted. As a girl with an inexplicable affinity for (now-ubiquitous) skulls, a pastel pink and navy hued striped top, with a large pink skull graphic printed atop, became an instant object of desire. It reminded me of being in middle school and latching myself on to riot grrl culture, and after purchasing that sweater, I dubbed it "Kathleen Hanna."

In the last few years, the Brazilian-born Herchcovitch has expanded his brand immensely, (maybe you remember the 2002 collaboration with Melissa Shoes?) - and the last few seasons have knocked me out. Herchcovitch's line is bold, brazen, and still maintains that level of rock&roll that first attracted me to his design. By now Fall/Winter 2010 collections are old news, but as we inch closer to autumn, and the temperatures continue to hit the 90's, I'm more and more eager for the crunch of fallen leaves below my boots and spicy chai lattes to warm my hands in brisk winds. Can someone please make sure I get a piece of FW10 Herchcovitch to live out that fantasy? ...Please? I love the coats, the ruffles, the metallics, the mix of reds and neutrals and tartan prints and boucle textures... It's swoon worthy. And, it's definitely making me bitter about the weather today.

P.S. This begins a new series that I plan to continue every Wednesday: "Midweek Inspiration."
