new york fashion week, fall-winter 2010
I've probably been more blasé about fashion week this year than i have been ever in my (adult) life. The demise of one of my personal fashion + art + design icons certainly didn't help get things started on the right foot. That said, as fashion week has now come to a close in New York City, and the tents at Bryant Park get taken down, I've looked back on all the collections with a new found sense of patriotism. So many of the looks evoked a nearly deafening American aesthetic; from references to The Great Gatsby and Holly Golightly and Little Edie Beale and New England equestrian/farmland chic and a 1950's librarian fantasy. It seems as though some of our homeland favorites banded collectively to celebrate American sportswear (with a twist, natch) - that, or they simply pull samples and fabrics from the same places and get tipped off as to what the other is doing.
Perhaps I'm going way off the deep end editorializing the past week like this, but am I the only one thoroughly seeing AMERICANA?
