A Day with Dirty Martini, Burlesque Superstar

Since I was a teenager and first discovered burlesque (on the internet, natch) as what was, in my mind, an obscure part of the art world, it has been a huge point of intrigue for me. I love the costumes, the play on gender in using drag (and, by the way, drag doesn't have to mean cross-dressing, but rather any/all performance of gender), and the amazing diversity and celebration of body throughout the burlesque world. The burlesque community is full of genuine characters, and among my favorites is none other than Dirty Martini. I've probably seen her perform at least a dozen times, and every single time I'm discovering something new, a nuance to her performance that makes it distinct and unique from the previous one. There's a reason she's among the most celebrated performers in the burlesque world. Of course, when I got the opportunity to spend a day with her and do an interview for Vogue Curvy, I knew I was in for a treat.
