Big Hair, Florals, and Chris Benz
"Everybody was going crazy this summer with the heat wave. We were all in the studio, and I just decided to go with it. It's Andy Warhol's superstars go to Coney Island, with a nod to candy kids."
I love, and have loved, Chris Benz since the first collection I saw of his in 2007, while I was in my Junior year at Parsons, (I specifically remember this because I waxed poetic about his debut collection on LiveJournal). He has such a fun sensibility and a talent with color that truly harkens back to the pop artists of the 1960's -- such that it's no surprise his Spring 2012 collection was inspired by the king of pop (art), Warhol himself; even Benz's rotation of candy-colored coifs echoes his attraction to punchy palettes. Without further ado, I'll let my photos of his collection speak for itself - one filled with modest silhouettes in flamboyant patterns. My favorites? Photographic prints of floral collages, voluminous clouds of hair painted with a bit of grey (seriously, this is my new OBSESSION), and crazy pattern mixing that is inspiring me to be a little more adventurous with my own pattern play.
