{FRIDAY FAVORITES} Rants, Raves, and Reflections on the Week!
BUSTworthy.
I'm super, super, super excited to share that the feature story I did for BUST Magazine, titled "The Invisible Woman" is now on newsstands! BUST just celebrated their 20th anniversary, and I feel really thrilled to have a byline in a publication that I've been reading since I was a teenager. In this piece, I explore some of the ways that the fashion industry is biased against the plus-size market, and how plus-size fashion is often set up to fail -- but there's a positive end to it all, and I hope I could shed a little bit of light on this part of the industry that I've been welcomed into for the last few years!! I'm hoping to open up a dialogue about the piece, but I'll give you all a chance to get your hands on a copy, first.
TeenVogue.com Raided My Apartment!
Okay, that's a total half truth, BUT TeenVogue.com did come to my home and snap some of my favorite objects and souvenirs. Click through for the full images by Mark Iantosca and text by Casey Lewis! You know from my most recent apartment post that things have changed a little, but the guts and objects that make my home feel like home are all the same. I'm super excited about this one!!
Do You Have a Netflix Account? No? Get one, now.
ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK. Oh. My. God. It's been over a week since Ali and I watched the entire series in a matter of days, and I've already started to go back and watch it all over again. I admit that I'm not really a TV person, (in fact, after realizing that we have turned our TV on exactly 2 times since January, we finally decided to cancel our cable plan), but there's something about this show that is so incredibly addictive and to say I'm obsessed would be a very literal understatement. I mean, I've taken to saving GIFs of the show to my phone just so I can scroll through and laugh while I'm waiting in line for a green juice. It deals with issues around class and race and sexuality and the complicated, messed up nature of the prison industrial complex and it's smart and funny and please just give yourself a chance to watch it. Also: Natasha Lyonne Kate Mulgrew Laura Prepon etc, etc, etc.
Wishlist-able Jewelry That You Can Actually Afford
The Coveteur x BaubleBar is here, and it's really good. Of course, leave it to the purveyors of luxury cool to curate a knock-out collection at prices far more attainable than the ones they typically feature on their site. My favorite piece in the collection is the Mawi-esque "Maleficent Bracelet" ($32) which comes in two different colorways, (I'm going for the black one!). While you're browsing BB, their summer sale is not to be missed, with pieces priced from $14.

They Said "We Will"
My friends and super talents Brad Walsh and Christian Siriano are engaged! Congrats to the duo. I cannot wait for their nuptials.
Lust List Dresses
My first introduction to NY-based plus-size designer Monif C was just over 4 years ago, around the time that I first started blogging - and ever since, her collections just keep getting better and better. She's gained popularity for her incredible swimwear (I featured this striped swimsuit in Marie Claire) but the dresses in her new arrivals are definitely stealing my heart! It's hard to pick a favorite, but this polka dot number is definitely on my wishlist, alongside this sexy black-and-white bodycon! Swoon.
Fall Beauty Trends
In beauty news, I'm currently lusting after fall releases from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics OCC's best selling lip tars are being released in 6 new shades under the "Moderncraft" collection - from a seriously vampy metallic deep red ("Black Metal Dahlia") to an ultra-pale beige ("Mein Herr")! Also, the campaign excitingly features Calpernia Addams!
Fashion For The Not-So-Girly
DapperQ's 100 Most Stylish is out - and my BFF Jesse made the cut! She's in the company of Rachel Maddow, Casey Legler, Jenny Shimizu, and both Quinn sisters. Babe alert!
Girl Power
This piece on The Daily Beast by Lauren Sherman is a must-read. Ever wonder how far you and your girls could get in life if you all just supported each other?? (Started from the bottom, now we here).
