Marc by Marc Jacobs, FW11
Seeing as I've been a little obsessed with all things Marc Jacobs for the better part of the last decade, it should be no surprise that attending the Marc by Marc Jacobs fashion show was one of my personal highlights of the FW11 shows. I feel really closely connected to the company (be it in aesthetics and personality or the good friends I've made who work within MJ), so to say that being there was a privilege is an understatement. The collection was very 1970's Faye Dunaway, mixed with 1940's details like chevron prints and drop-waisted dresses and sequin tops that gave just the slightest whimsical nod to the sophisticated 1940's femmebot approach of the Collection line that walked the evening before. With bold prints and bright colors, each look possessed the playful edge that I love so much about the line, especially with midi-length leopard print dresses (which, incidentally, really reminded me of this FW2006 MJ Collection dress) and pleated-collar matte/shiny horizontal striped blouses paired with metallic threaded elephant stripes.
I wish my (amateur at best) photos could do justice to the lush colors and prints in the collection, but thankfully, style.com exists for that.
