Once the weather hits mid-70's and lower, it's officially the start of Leather Jacket Season (LJS), a time in my life that spans seasons and makes me immensely happy. For some, LJS is often marked by the return of Pumpkin Spice Latte's (sorry, but - ew), but for me it's about the crisp, cold air and the return of my favorite kind of outerwear. I have a closet full of black leather jackets (they've virtually all been documented here in some form), but I've been craving something a little different. Maybe it was hardware, or patent details, or something that strays from the norm (and I obviously needed it sooner than the November drop of my Mynt 1792 jacket!). And so, the hunt began. Continue...

MICHAEL Michael Kors Cobalt Leather Jacket from Lord&Taylor, Black & White Brush Stroked Check Dress from ASOS, Necklaces from Bauble Bar, Yellow Crossbody Bag c/o B. Makowsky Handbags, Emerson Booties from Loeffler Randall

I have to be honest: in the almost-decade I've lived in New York City, I had never actually been to Lord&Taylor, but when I finally did I was both overwhelmed by the options and a little embarrassed that I had never been inside before. Listen, shopping for plus-size clothing in department stores is so often a really sad experience: I'm used to trying to find the section hidden in the basement or tucked away behind pots-and-pans in the home goods department, only to find racks full of shapeless, dark cover-alls that are more suited for a sack of potatoes than a woman's body. My experience at Lord&Taylor was nothing like that: the elevator opens up to the plus-size shop, which lives adjacent to the petites section. There were mannequins styled in truly of-the-moment styles, and youthful brands like Jessica Simpson Collection and Vince Camuto, and found things like leather t-shirts, and Seattle-cool plaids, and wear-all-season parkas.

All this to say, I hardly expected to find a cobalt blue leather jacket (!!!!) in my size in what has got to be the nicest leather I've ever felt used in the plus market. Leave it to Michael Kors, huh? I fell in love with this op-pop print top, too. Soon I'll have to bust out the tights, but for the time being, this might be my favorite fall look.
