I'm all about a uniform: it's a really good (and liberating!) thing to have a shortlist of outfits you can wear easily, comfortably, and confidently throughout most of your daily obligations and commitments. My uniforms tend to take a pretty similar form: short & black & leather skirts with a grey, graphic tee or an embellished top (depending on how casual I can go), with punchy shoes and accessories thrown in to mix things up. But every now and then, my uniform takes a turn for the statement dressing, and I find comfort in something that is dramatic and voluminous and commanding of attention.

That is more or less how this outfit, the newest in my long history of signature looks, came to be. I first wore it while hosting Thanksgiving dinner, and again a couple of days later just because it was a Sunday (you know?), and again this past Monday while accepting an award as a Woman to Watch by JWI in Washington, DC. It's irrefutably feminine, fun, and the billowy skirt possesses a confidence of its own. I tend to be overdressed in most scenarios ("What's the occasion?" "Life!" - badum-bum), but this seems to be the perfect balance of ease and fance for my life. I'm totally okay with admitting that sometimes (most of the time) clothes make me extraordinarily happy.
