{STYLE} Pattern Play
Though I think I'm pretty open minded when it comes to dressing, I'm generally not a fan of patterns. I love a good stripe or polka dot, and I think leopard is a neutral - but beyond that, graphic shapes and prints aren't usually the pieces that steal my heart. Instead, I usually like playing with color, texture, and shape to create dynamic styling throughout my wardrobe. Continue...
That said, when I spotted this mismatched chevron print top at Lord&Taylor, I knew I had to have it, even though I had no idea how I'd wear it. On anyone else it would look amazing with a pair of tapered trousers, but I'm me - and I don't do pants. But you know who can work a pattern like no one I know? My mom! So I channeled the one woman in my life who always looks flawless, sophisticated, and put together. She makes even crazy all-over-butterfly-prints look effortless and chic, and while it's hardly the thing I admire most about her - there's no doubt that it has influenced my aesthetic, and each year I find myself emulating her more and more.
