Fun fact: when I was 13-years-old I was hell bent on being a guitar-playing supergirl, picked up my first stratocaster, and taught myself Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins songs, (because, let's face it, they were easy). I grew up playing piano, so migrating to other (louder) instruments was natural - especially in the throes of early teen angst. I'd plug my guitar into my amp (sorry mom, dad, neighbors) and play until my fingers were calloused. It was meditative, expressive - and my way of carving out personal space at a time when I desperately needed it. My love for music was borderline obsessive, and I'm not sure why I ultimately abandoned by musical ambitions, but there are days where I miss it. I still really love to sing - as anyone who has joined me at karaoke can attest.So, on days when I'm feeling particularly musically inspired, channeling my rock sensibilities into my dress is a fun throwback. Missguided is still relatively new to the plus-size fashion game, but ever since their debut last year I've been going to them for that effortlessly cool London girl style, (something that I can't divorce from music); it's a little edgy, a little sexy - and just... cool. Like the girl I wanted to be when I was 13 and pouring my soul into a string instrument.Note: Missguided runs a little large to size. Wish I had sized down in the skirt; next time!
